KC Bier Co poured its first beer at 98th and Ridgeview on July 28, 2026. A few miles away at 87th and Scarborough, Five Four is set to open its doors this same fall. Both are real, both are big, and both are landing inside Lenexa city limits this year. But if you drove from one to the other, you'd cross most of the city to do it.
That's the part worth sitting with. Lenexa isn't filling in one downtown this year. It's building two separate ones, on opposite ends of town, for two different kinds of night out.
What Actually Opened at 98th and Ridgeview
KC Bier Co opened its Lenexa location on July 28, 2026, and the scale of it changes the calculus for anyone who's used to picking a brewery based on how many barstools it has. The hall seats roughly 400 people indoors. The outdoor biergarten holds another 500. Local business coverage has called it the largest brewery footprint in the Kansas City area, and walking the two-acre site makes the claim easy to believe: a working brewhouse visible from a second-floor viewing deck, a covered amphitheater stage with a large video screen, a children's play area, and an off-leash dog zone.
This is KC Bier Co's first Johnson County location. The brewery has run its original Bierhalle in Kansas City's Waldo neighborhood since 2014, and founder Steve Holle has talked about wanting the Lenexa build to do the same thing at a bigger scale. As he put it:
"a good old-fashioned place in the Bavarian style where families and friends meet and enjoy food and a beer"
The location matters as much as the size. Vista Village, the mixed-use development the brewery anchors, sits at the northeast corner of 98th Street and Ridgeview Road, just north of K-10, in a part of Lenexa that has historically had less restaurant density than the areas closer to 87th Street. West Star Development is building housing and retail around the biergarten, which means the crowd this space draws isn't necessarily walking over from an existing commercial strip. It's driving in specifically for it, the same way people already treat Limitless Brewing, the Lenexa-based taproom that stays open 365 days a year and has built its own following on food trucks and regular events.
What's Landing at 87th and Scarborough
Meanwhile, the AdventHealth campus at Lenexa City Center is filling in with a different kind of dining entirely. Copaken Brooks, the developer behind the campus, announced three restaurants coming between fall 2026 and early 2027, and none of them are built for a watch party.
Five Four is the rebrand of 54th Street, the longtime Kansas City chain, and the Lenexa location will be its ninth metro spot and the newest version of the concept: a 10,000-square-foot standalone building with indoor dining and an outdoor games area, slated to open this fall just north of 87th Street on the east side of Scarborough. Urban Egg, a Colorado-founded breakfast and brunch concept with 11 locations across three states, is taking a 3,400-square-foot space nearby and is expected to open by the end of the year. Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill, an upscale steakhouse brand from SPB Hospitality, will make its Kansas City-area debut at 8687 Scarborough Street in an 8,000-square-foot space, with an early 2027 opening. Urban Egg and Stoney River will share a new 24,000-square-foot building at the northeast corner of 87th and Scarborough, and that building is set to also carry office space above the ground-floor restaurants.
A fourth name shows up in the Lenexa Chamber's dining directory: NEAT, listed at 16953 City Center Drive with an opening year of 2026. Taken together, this is a corridor being built around sit-down dinners, business lunches, and the healthcare and office workforce already on that campus, not around groups looking for a place to watch a game.
Where the Public Market Still Fits
City Center's other food anchor, the Lenexa Public Market, isn't new, but it's worth placing on the map because it fills a third niche neither of the 2026 openings touches: fast, casual, and rotating. The Market's current vendor lineup includes Mi Poblito for birria tacos, Cosmo Burger for smash burgers, and Kukiss Bakery for pastries, alongside Mr. D's Coffee and Cardboard Corner Cafe. It's free to walk in, the seating includes fire pits, and Friday nights bring live concerts. If Vista Village is where you go to plan an evening around and City Center's new restaurant row is where you go to sit down for a meal, the Public Market is where you go when you don't want to plan anything at all.

The Festival Calendar Hasn't Moved, and That's the Point
While the restaurant map splits in two, the third node in Lenexa's civic life has stayed put. The Lenexa Spinach Festival ran on September 12 at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park, marking the city's history as the self-declared "Spinach Capital of the World" back in the 1930s, when local farmers grew enough of the crop to earn the title from The Kansas City Star. Next up on that same park is the Lenexa Chili Challenge, held the third weekend of October in Old Town Lenexa, where more than 200 teams compete in chili, hot wing, and salsa categories in front of a crowd that comes as much for the live music as the samples. After that, Sar-Ko Aglow lights up the park on December 4 for the season, with hot chocolate, carolers, and a visit from Santa once the lights switch on.
None of that has anything to do with either restaurant row. It's the reminder that Lenexa's growth this year isn't replacing what already worked, it's adding new options on top of a festival calendar that was already full. Old Town and Sar-Ko-Par remain the place for the free, family, once-a-season events. Vista Village and City Center are where the everyday choices just multiplied.
What This Actually Changes for a Lenexa Weekend
The practical upshot is that "where should we eat in Lenexa" now has a real answer depending on what the night calls for. Planning a birthday for twelve people who want beer, yard games, and room to spread out means driving to 98th and Ridgeview. Booking a dinner for a work client or a date night that calls for tablecloths means heading to Scarborough Street once Stoney River opens in early 2027, or to Five Four this fall if steak can wait. Grabbing tacos on a Tuesday with no plan at all still means the Public Market. And the fall festival stops, spinach in September, chili in October, lights in December, stay exactly where they've always been.
That's not a small distinction if you live here. It means the drive time calculation for a Friday night just changed, and it means two very different crowds are about to become regulars in two very different parts of the same city.
